Advanced Painting and Drawing

This studio course is for students with previous experience that are ready to progress towards the next level which is to consider an exhibition quality body of work. Unlike basic classes which rely on assignments furnished by the instructor, students in this class will be encouraged by the instructor to generate ideas and create individual projects of their own design. In a supportive environment complemented by demonstrations, individual and group critiques and relevant slide lectures, students will be motivated to focus on developing their own personal style and two dimensional voice. Students should bring their favorite materials and their ideas to the first class.

Drawing & Painting: Beg/Intermediate
Students will begin with instruction in the basic rules of drawing, which includes instruction in contour, value, and composition, before moving on to the study and use of color via pastels, acrylics and oils. In a supportive environment and working from a variety of subject matter, the instructor will also offer guidance in other areas including information on the proper use of materials, color theory and art history. Group critiques as well as individual critiques catered to each student's level of experience will also be offered.
More advanced students will be able to work on individual projects of their own design. Materials will be discussed during the first class so students should only bring drawing materials to that first class. (Students should expect to spend approximately $30-60 on materials.)
